It might sound cheesy to suggest printing up business cards for your band. In actuality, they are an extremely practical promotional tool for any musician to have. Considering how cheap they are, it’s something to look into for your band. Don’t rely on booker’s to remember the name of your band if you’ve just met them face-to-face. They won’t because they communicate with hundreds of bands every week. Leave something with them that will remind them to check out your music and give you a call when they’re looking for an act.
Situations where business cards work
Let’s say you are in a bar that seems like a great place for your band to play. However, the booker isn’t there. See if you can leave your band’s card with the bartender or someone on the staff. This is much better than leaving an expensive press kit that might not make it into the booker’s hands.
They are also great to give to other bands. Hand them out to bands who you think would be great to play with. They might think of your band next time they are putting a bill together.
The most obvious thing to do with business cards is to hand them out to each and every booker you meet. Trust us, people who are booking shows love working with other organized people. If they have a clear way to contact your band, you’ll have a better chance of landing a gig.
The card itself
Important info:
- Band name
- Myspace and/or website
- Booking email address
- Phone number
You don’t really need anymore than that. Don’t jam the card full of useless information. Your name and a link to hear your songs are the most important items on the card. Keep it simple.
